Tia lost 74 pounds
Transformation of the Day: Tia lost 74 pounds. After a significant health scare in her 20s, she turned her life around and reclaimed her health. Seven years later, she gained 65 lbs while carrying her daughter. Tia revisited the same discipline and dedication she had in the past to release the weight.
I’ve weighed over 200 pounds twice. Once while in college, when I reached 210 pounds and almost had a stroke/heart attack. Sitting in a hospital bed at 20 years of age being told you were 5 seconds from having a stroke or heart attack will do something to you. We never really cherish our health until it’s too late. I’m a firm believer I was blessed with more life to wake others up and ensure they are more conscious about their health.
The first time I weighed 200 plus pounds, I began boxing and started taking my health seriously. After boxing three days a week, hiring a trainer and eating better, I lost a total of 50 pounds.
Seven years after my first health scare, I gained 65 pounds and reached 238 pounds while carrying my daughter. I had to revisit the same discipline and dedication I needed to lose the weight the first time… this time while being a mom.
What was your motivation?
My motivation is my health and my ability to take my power back. Being diagnosed with hypertension inspired me to learn more about my body and what foods are truly “our” food. I felt like a guinea pig with all the prescription drugs the doctors were giving me, so I wanted to stop taking medication and dealing with the side effects.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My daughter inspires me when I want to give up. It’s fulfilling to know I’m breaking generational curses that stemmed from unhealthy choices and helping others do the same. Too many people settle with, “It runs in my family.” I knew that was not the case for me.
When did you start the second part of your journey?
After giving birth to your daughter, how did you change your eating habits?
During my second weight loss journey, I stopped eating out as much. I ate way more fruits and vegetables. I also started juicing and increasing my water intake.
What did your workout routine consist of?
My workout routine consisted of HIIT, cardio, and weight training. I legit started virtual personal training and started doing the routines with my clients. I worked out 3-4 times a week.
What is your current weight?
My current weight is 164 pounds.
What is your height?
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that this is a lifestyle, not a quick fix. There are levels to health and nutrition, and I must remain open to unlearning and relearning.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
- Focus more on the progress (habits) rather than the results.
- Don’t overthink it.
- Choose your food like you like your people…REAL. Leave the fake and processed products alone.
- Be patient with the process, but also be persistent.
Our decisions and lifestyle will determine whether we will be an asset to our kids and family or a liability. CHOOSE WISELY.
